The Basement

-Remote Control was MTV's first -- and most sucessful -- attempt at a game show. It premiered December 7, 1987 and the debut episode reaired prior to the fourth season's premiere.
-The first two seasons were taped in New York City, but moved to Orlando for season three. They moved back to New York for the final two seasons.
-After three seasons, a syndicated version of Remote Control was launched in September, 1989. The two shows were vurtually identical, save for the bonus round. The MTV version required their contestants to be college kids (or at least in that age group), but this was not a prerequisite for the syndie version.
-Several categories required actors to perform walk-on parts. Two notables who played various characters are Adam Sandler & Dennis Leary. Most of the roles, however, were played by staff writer John Ten Eyck.
-John Ten Eyck has been a writer for many game shows, most recently Double Dare 2000. According to the Internet Movie Database, "Remote Control" was his first writing job.
-All season three episodes are copyrighted 1988 even though the season premiere was in February or March, 1989.
-The opening sequence was changed for the final season, although the syndicated version kept the old opening.
-Contestants were not allowed to keep their name tags.
