THE RULES

"Remote Control" was a pop culture trivia show with material spanning the 50s right on up to the current shooting date. There were nine categories, or channels, but the category wasn't revealed until the contestant in control chose number 1-9.

There were three questions in each channel (with the exception of a few which I'll get to a little later), worth 5, 10, & 15 points respectively in round one, and 10, 20, & 30 points in round two. If a question was answered correctly, the player in control could elect to stay with the current channel for bigger points, or go somewhere else.

After two rounds were played, the player in last place was thrown Off The Air (which I'll again get to later). It was then time for the lightning round, or, the Think Real Fast Round. Ken would ask questions for 30 seconds which valued 10 points each. It was usually something like: "I've replaced one word in a TV/movie/song show title with another word," "Complete these Robert DiNiro film titles," "I'll say a TV ad slogan, you name the product," etc. The player on top after Think Real Fast went to the bonus round and the other poor schmuck was also yanked Off The Air.

In the bonus round, the contestant must identify the musical artist in 9 music videos in 30 seconds. Sounds easy, right? Some of the monitors were flipped upside-down, & some of them got bad reception, so it was actually pretty difficult. The contestant wone a prize for each artist correctly guessed.

SNACK BREAK

Answering all of those mind-bending questions can sure build up a hefty appetite, would't you agree? So after one round of play, the contestants were allowed to get a snack. Actually, it was kind of forced on them as you can tell by the pictures.

OFF THE AIR

Ah, yes. If you only remember one segment of "Remote Control," it's Off The Air. Losers were literally yanked off the air, as you can see by clicking the links below. It never gets boring!
